JACKSON, MI – An I-94 entrance ramp and lane is closing for rebuilding.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing the Elm Road entrance ramp to eastbound I-94 in Jackson at 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26. The ramp will be closed until 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4.
A posted detour will direct traffic to the M-106 (Cooper Street) interchange via Elm Road, Ganson Street and M-106 (Cooper Street) to enter eastbound I-94. Motorists should expect delays.
Motorists can also expect a single-lane closure on eastbound I-94 between Elm Road and southbound U.S. 127. The closure starts at 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, and will be reopened at 3 p.m. the same day.
This lane closure will precede a shift of both directions of traffic to westbound I-94 to allow workers to begin rebuilding the eastbound lanes, officials said.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes while this traffic shift is in progress.
This work is part of MDOT’s ongoing $120 million investment to rebuild and widen I-94 near the Airport Road interchange to just west of the east U.S. 127/I-94 interchange in Blackman and Leoni Township. The I-94 project involves upgrading the U.S. 127/M-50 (West Avenue)/I-94 interchange to a diverging diamond interchange, the Elm Road interchange with roundabouts and the Lansing Avenue bridge over I-94.
Funding for this project is made possible by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Rebuilding Michigan program to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state’s economy and carry the most traffic.
